We’re excited to launch the new CardSmart +Electric – the only fuel card in New Zealand with technology allowing drivers to start and stop EV charging sessions, and swipe the same card to pay for fuel, servicing and tyres.

The EV market is surging in New Zealand. Electric car sales increased by 730% between 2017 and 2022, and the light EV fleet in New Zealand has increased 9.5-fold, according to the latest Drive Electric report

While the transition is moving fast, many fleets will still be using fuel for many years to come. Fleets with a mix of fuel and electric vehicles are looking for the most convenient way to refuel and charge.

That’s why we are proud to launch our new CardSmart +Electric card and announce our new charging network partnership with OpenLoop.

Get the benefits of CardSmart +Electric

CardSmart +Electric makes the EV transition simpler and more reliable for New Zealand vehicle fleets.

Bringing fuel, EV, and other vehicle expenses onto one card, CardSmart +Electric streamlines the payment process for drivers and provides fleet owners and managers with the convenience of managing all on-road expenses through one invoice.

Drivers in electric vehicles can use their new CardSmart +Electric card to start and stop charging sessions using the RFID reader and swipe the same card to pay for servicing and tyres or fuel.

Like CardSmart, the card can be used to access discounts for vehicle maintenance, tyres, taxi fares, and more. Customers simply need to look out for the CardSmart or MTA logo at participating retailers. The new CardSmart +Electric card can also be used to access 24-hour roadside emergency services, ensuring fleets can get back to business as soon as possible.

Growing our charging network

Range anxiety has long been a barrier for EV fleets. For fleet owners and managers who haven’t yet introduced EVs into their fleets, their business case often hinges on how they can access the charging points they need, where they need them.

CardLink is focused on increasing the number of charging points in its network so that fleet owners and managers can have peace of mind that their fleets are always moving efficiently.

That’s why we have partnered with OpenLoop to enable a seamless recharging experience across various EV charging locations.

OpenLoop’s 39 stations, together with the 339 stations available through our existing partnership with ChargeNet, adds to our growing EV network throughout New Zealand.

CardSmart +Electric card is also accepted at all major fuel stations around New Zealand, giving you the convenience of one card if you have mixed fleet.
